Laser Hair Removal in Leawood, KS

Kansas City Plastic Surgeon serving Overland Park, Leawood & Nearby Areas of Kansas & Missouri

Hair removal is one of the most basic beauty techniques. There are several methods of hair removal, such as waxing and shaving, which work to varying degrees. The ultimate problem with these methods of hair removal is discomfort, both during and after, which can include ingrown hairs, razor bumps and burns, cuts, and rashes. Some people also expertise severe acne after waxing.

What is Laser Hair Removal?

If you have grown tired of the discomfort and inconvenience of frequent waxing or shaving, you may be the ideal candidate for laser hair removal. Fast and permanent, laser hair removal offers the most reliable, least invasive method for attaining smooth, hairless skin. We encourage you to call our Leawood office to schedule a consultation and learn more.

Is Laser Hair Removal Cost-Effective?

In comparison to a lifetime of shaving or waxing, laser hair removal is incredibly cost-effective.

The average lifetime cost of razors – even when only used twice a month – is more than $10,500. The average lifetime cost of waxing is significantly higher. Depending on the area being treated, monthly waxing can result in lifetime costs of $25,000+ for women, and $55,000 or more for larger areas commonly treated on men, such as the back.

Razors and waxing are less effective, less comfortable, and substantially more expensive than laser hair removal. If you are concerned about the cost of permanent hair removal, we would be happy to discuss your financing options during your initial consultation.

How Laser Hair Removal Works

During the laser hair removal process, light is focused on individual hairs. Once absorbed, this light safely heats the hair, damaging the follicle at its base. By damaging the follicle, hair growth is either prevented or significantly delayed. Hair that does grow from damaged follicles is lighter, softer, and less noticeable, allowing laser hair removal to produce impressive results even after a single treatment.

Over the course of several treatments, the hair will cease to grow from damaged follicles at all – and once stopped, it will not resume, allowing for a lifetime of smooth skin throughout the treatment area.

How many Laser Hair removal treatments may be needed?

Laser hair removal is cumulative. While some permanent reduction in hair is possible after one session, it may take between six and 10 to see full results. These sessions require little to no downtime and, depending on the amount of time needed for your specific treatment areas, can even be performed over your lunch break.

Is Laser Hair Removal Painful?

Laser hair removal can be slightly uncomfortable at first. We will numb the treatment area prior to performing your treatment to help address this possibility. Subsequent treatments tend to be more comfortable as the skin becomes accustomed to this type of hair removal – and remember, you will only need a handful before you never have to worry about hair removal again.

What Should I Expect After a Laser Hair Removal Treatment?

Some redness or swelling may be present for a few hours, but with proper aftercare, these things should subside quickly. Bear in mind: waxing can be extremely uncomfortable, leave painful welts, and encourage acne. Shaving can cut the skin, produce bumps and lumps, and encourage ingrown hairs. All of these issues are eliminated with laser hair removal, which destroys the hair at the follicle to prevent its regrowth permanently.

Is There Downtime After Laser Hair Removal?

The short answer is no, laser hair removal doesn’t require any downtime. You should be able to continue your daily routine and activities as soon as you walk out of our office!

When Will I Start Seeing Results From Laser Hair Removal?

Results can usually be seen as soon as your treatment is completed. However, it’s important to know that how soon you see results can be dependent on your skin type, thickness of hair, area treated, and laser type.

How Old Do I Have to be To Start Getting Laser Hair Removal?

While there isn’t a minimum age to get laser hair removal, you should have at least hit puberty before starting treatment.

Can I Get Laser Hair Removal if I’m Pregnant?

You should wait until you are no longer pregnant before getting laser hair removal treatments.
