Individuals looking for permanent lip volume and natural-looking plumpness may benefit from lip augmentation. The lip augmentation procedure entails adding lip implants to improve the lip’s shape and size. Customizable to your personal desires and cosmetic goals, this procedure is an excellent option for those looking to enhance their aesthetic appearance.
What is a Lip Augmentation?
Lip augmentation is a cosmetic surgery designed to give you more full and voluminous lips. Lip augmentation is a surgical lip procedure that involves adding lip implants into the lips. This procedure addresses both the shape and size of your lips, allowing for a plumper and more voluptuous pout.
Candidates for Lip Augmentation
Candidates for lip augmentation include individuals with very small lips looking to enhance the shape and size of the lips. This surgery can create a more balanced-looking face, addressing your appearance as a whole. Patients wanting a permanent option for lip enhancement are ideal for the surgical procedure. Patients must be in general good health with no medical conditions that can affect their surgery or healing process.
The best way to determine if you are an ideal candidate for lip augmentation surgery is through a private consultation with our trusting doctor at Advanced Cosmetic Surgery. During your consultation, Dr. Young will review your medical history and aesthetic goals and create a treatment plan based on your needs.
Lip Augmentation Procedure
Before your surgery begins, Dr. Young will thoroughly cleanse your treatment area and numb the lips. The medications administered for your surgery include general anesthesia and intravenous sedation. Once the area is prepped, Dr. Young will carefully make a small incision on the corner of your mouth. A tunnel will be gently created in the lip with a medical-grade clamp to allow for a tunnel for the implant. The implant will then be placed in the tunnel under the lip fat and above the muscles. Dr. Young then cautiously closes the incisions with dissolvable stitches for your best convenience. This surgery is relatively short, lasting only 30 minutes.
Lip Augmentation Recovery and Results
- 2-4 weeks
- Low activity
Recovery after your lip augmentation typically lasts between one and three days. After your surgery, you must avoid any pressure or contact with the lips for two weeks. This allows for the lip implants to heal correctly without shifting. It can take up to two weeks for the lip tissue to begin healing around the lips to hold the implants in place. Temporary side effects after your procedure include swelling, bruising, discomfort, pain, and redness. Pain medications can be taken to soothe feelings of discomfort. Ice packs and head elevation may also help relieve swelling and minimize scarring during your recovery period. Your results will be immediately visible, allowing you to experience permanent results without the need for maintenance appointments.
