Kybella is a cosmetic treatment used to address unwanted submental fullness, also known as a double chin. Targeting the fat in the double chin can be as easy as a non-surgical injectable treatment. The Kybella process utilizes deoxycholic acid to target fat cells in the chin and neck area. This minimally invasive treatment option offers an innovative approach to fat removal. Learn more about the Kybella injectable treatment offered at Advanced Cosmetic Surgery and decide if this procedure suits your unique needs.

What is Kybella?

Kybella is a non-surgical fat-reducing treatment intended for use in the double chin area. This injectable treatment is formulated with deoxycholic acid to destroy fat cells in the chin and neck area. Deoxycholic acid is a bile acid that is naturally produced by the body to absorb fat. Kybella utilizes a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid in each injection.  This submental fat melting treatment typically requires between two and four treatment sessions to achieve optimal results.

Candidates for Kybella

Candidates for Kybella must be 18 years or older with moderate to severe levels of excess fat underneath the chin. Candidates must be in good health, nonsmokers, and should not be pregnant or nursing, or have any medical conditions that will interfere with their treatment. The best way to determine if you are a good candidate for Kybella is through an in-depth consultation with Dr. Levi Young at Cosmetic Surgery Associates.

Kybella Procedure

Before your Kybella procedure, your doctor will create a unique treatment plan based on your submental fat severity and aesthetic goals. Your Kybella treatment sessions will begin with Dr. Young applying a topical numbing agent to the treatment area. After the numbing agent has been activated, the treatment area will be cleansed, and your injector will meticulously mark the injection sites to ensure proper injection. Around 20 to 30 injections will be gently made under the chin. The acid will then work to kill your excess fat cells in the treatment area. The body will metabolize these in the weeks following your procedure.

Kybella Recovery and Results

  • 2 WEEKS
  • LOW ACTIVITY

After your Kybella treatment, the recovery process is mild, with downtime and side effects varying between patients. After your Kybella treatment, typical side effects include temporary swelling, redness, bruising, itchiness, and discomfort. Side effects are short-lasting, subsiding within two weeks. Most individuals require more than one Kybella treatment to reach their desired goals. The majority of patients at Advanced Cosmetic Surgery receive between two and four Kybella treatments. After the acid has destroyed your fat cells and the body releases the unwanted tissue, no further treatment is necessary because the fat cells can no longer store fat. The number of treatment sessions you require will vary based on your condition.
