Leawood woman smiles with radiant skin

Facial plastic surgery can rejuvenate or restore many areas of your face. As you get older, your body produces less collagen and elastin—two proteins responsible for taut skin—which leads to lines and wrinkles. Your skin is often the first part of your appearance to show the everyday impact of sun exposure and lifestyle choices such as poor diet, smoking, and drinking. Face surgery can help you reach your cosmetic goals and turn back time on certain aspects of your complexion.

Our board-certified plastic surgeon specializes in facial surgery and has the skill and artistic eye to deliver stunning results. Schedule your consultation with Dr. Young today at (913) 341-2188 to see if face surgery is right for you.

Face Procedures Offered at Advanced Cosmetic Surgery

We offer a variety of face surgeries designed to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles, restore volume, and other imperfections. Dr. Young provides these procedures:

  • Facelift: Gone are the days of the "windblown" look once associated with the facelift. This procedure focuses on restoring volume and minimizing lines and wrinkles to restore a youthful look. The facelift focuses on the mid-face region.
  • Eyelid Surgery: Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is performed for cosmetic or medical reasons to address drooping or sagging upper eyelids and under-eye bags.
  • Brow Lift: This face surgery focuses on the eyebrows and forehead area and addresses inherently low set eyebrows, sagging eyebrows, "crow's feet," and forehead wrinkles.
  • Rhinoplasty: Nose surgery is another procedure performed for cosmetic or medical reasons. Rhinoplasty can correct a deviated septum as well as alter the bridge, nose tip, and nostrils to provide aesthetically-pleasing, symmetrical results.

Some of these procedures can be combined to improve multiple areas of your face at once, such as a facelift and brow lift.

What Can I Expect at My Initial Consultation?

During your initial consultation, Dr. Young will listen to your concerns and carefully assess your problem areas to help you determine which treatment is best. If you choose to go ahead with treatment, we can begin to plan and prepare during this consultation as well.

We can discuss financing, recovery, timeframes, and more during your initial consultation. We encourage you to come with any questions you may have already written down so that you can be sure to gather all of the information you need.

Should I Choose a Facial Plastic Surgery Procedure or an Injectable?

Both surgical procedures and non-surgical injectable treatments can address skin laxity and wrinkles. The one that will produce the best results for you will be dependent on multiple factors that are unique to you, such as your age, the current state of your skin, your daily skincare routine, and your ultimate goals.

During your initial consultation, Dr. Young will be able to guide you toward the procedures that will best meet your needs.

Can I Have More Than One Procedure Performed at Once?

Yes. It is common to combine plastic surgery procedures. Each procedure is intended to improve the appearance of a different facial feature. Combining things like facelift and brow lift or brow lift with eyelid lift can help to both shorten recovery time and improve final results.

How Long Does a Procedure Typically Take?

Facial surgery can take anywhere from one to six hours depending on which procedures are being performed, the number of procedures being performed, and the technique being employed for each procedure. The best way to determine how long your procedure may take is through a one-on-one consultation at our Leawood office.

Will I Be Under Anesthesia?

Facial plastic surgery may be performed under general anesthesia. Some procedures may also be performed under local anesthesia with light sedation. Each procedure and patient is unique.

How Long Is the Recovery Period?

Recovery from facial plastic surgery can take anywhere from four to eight weeks. There will be limitations on working, exercising, and engaging in demanding tasks, but depending on the procedure you have undergone, these can vary to some extent. Final results are typically noticeable within a few months, but it may take up to six for some procedures to reach this point.

What Are the Risks Associated With Facial Plastic Surgery?

General surgical risks include infection, bleeding, and poor incision healing. These risks are reduced when you select a board-certified plastic surgeon who performs surgery in accredited surgical facilities and is further reduced by closely following all pre and postoperative instructions.

Risks specific to facial plastic surgery include nerve damage, asymmetry, over-correction, and poor incision placement. Once again, risks are reduced when you choose an experienced and board-certified plastic surgeon.

Honest and upfront, Dr. Young will provide information about all potential risks during your initial consultation to help ensure you are making the best decision for your body.
