Our Body Contouring Options

Body contouring options available at through our Kansas City office include:

  • Liposuction. Perhaps the most commonly performed body contouring treatment, liposuction can be used to remove stubborn deposits of fat from nearly any area of the body. Dr. Young utilizes the tumescent technique which helps reduce risks while enhancing fat removal for ideally sculpted results.
  • Tummy Tuck Surgery. Also known as abdominoplasty, tummy tuck surgery removes unwanted fat and skin from the stomach and hips, draws in the waist, and reduces the appearance of stretch marks. Full tummy tuck surgery can also address diastasis recti, the separation of abdominal muscles that can occur after multiple pregnancies or excessive weight gain.
  • Lower Body Lift Surgery. A combination of lift surgery, buttock sculpting, and tummy tuck, a body lift may also incorporate liposuction to address issues as varied as stubborn fat and loose skin from the lower back to the ankles. Comprehensive in scope, this procedure is often best following excessive weight loss.
  • Arm Lift Surgery. Addressing fat and flabby skin, arm lift surgery can restore a firm and contoured look to the upper portion of the arms. Suitable on its own, this procedure is commonly performed with other body lift techniques to restore form to the arms as well as optimal full-body contours.

Body contouring and breast procedures can be combined to address issues in both the upper and lower body brought about by pregnancy. Known as a mommy makeover, this option typically combines abdominoplasty, liposuction, and breast lift and/or augmentation to create symmetry and restore the body to its most appealing shape.

During your initial consultation, Dr. Young will discuss all of your options to make sure you are choosing those that will produce the look you desire.

Weight Loss and Body Contouring

While body contouring procedures can be used to remove fat deposits and excess skin from various treatment areas, they are not suitable as weight loss procedures. The best candidates for body contouring are men and women who are close to their ideal weight and are in generally good health, but need assistance in sculpting and toning those last stubborn areas.

Body contouring can help firm and define several sections of the frame, but these results will require effort to maintain. While skin and fat removed through these procedures will not grow back, new accumulations can develop if steps are not taken to prevent such an occurrence. During your time in our care, Dr. Young will discuss maintaining your body contouring results to help make sure you have the tools you need to enjoy your newly defined shape for years to come.

Is Body Contouring Permanent?

Yes! Body contouring permanently changes the appearance of the body. Once fat has been eliminated from the frame, it cannot grow back. Likewise, excess skin, once removed from the body, will not magically reappear.

So long as steps are taken to maintain a consistent weight, the results achieved through body contouring should last for a lifetime.

How Long Does it Take to Recover from Body Procedures?

Recovery is dependent on the type of procedure performed. However, between six and eight weeks is typically how long patients must wait before resuming demanding tasks like heavy lifting or advanced exercise. Depending on the type of procedure you have, five to ten days off of work may also be required, though some procedures will require less.

A one-on-one consultation with Dr. Young is the best way to determine how long you can expect recovery to take.

Are There Any Health Benefits to Body Contouring?

There can be. Body contouring may help improve range of motion and can be a springboard to healthier living. Removing fat from the body may reduce risks for hypertension, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes. However, these impacts mainly depend on food choices and activity levels before and after your procedure.

Some procedures, such as tummy tuck, also address muscle separation, which can assist with balance and core strength and help to prevent certain types of hernia. All the same, even with these potential benefits, body contouring procedures are not intended to treat or cure illness or disease and should not be relied on for healthy weight loss.

What do I Need to do in Preparation for Body Contouring?

You will need to stop taking blood thinning medications, herbs, and supplements in preparation for your body contouring procedure. In addition, if you use nicotine, including smokeless tobacco and vapes, you must stop at least six weeks before your procedure.

It is a good idea to create a comfortable place, stocked with magazines, books, and other forms of entertainment, to recover. It is also best to arrange for help from a trusted family member or friend during the first few days of recovery. Even just having someone on call can help ensure you have the support you need to rest after your surgery.

Can Body Procedures be Combined with Breast Procedures?

Absolutely. Body and breast procedures are commonly combined. For example, the mommy makeover procedure combines several breast and body procedures. So too might post-weight loss body contouring and other, more involved procedures.

If you have multiple areas of concern, Dr. Young will discuss your many options during your initial consultation.
