Woman pinching belly fat and wondering if liposuction might help

Liposuction is used to remove stubborn fat deposits from the body. Incredibly versatile, liposuction can be used on nearly any part of the frame where diet-and-exercise resistant fat has proven difficult to remove. Once eliminated, these pockets of fat cannot “grow back,” allowing liposuction to create contours that last.

Does liposuction last forever? Yes and no. Removed fat does not come back. New fat can, however, accumulate if steps aren’t taken to prevent it. This may require dietary or lifestyle changes for some individuals, which will be discussed during your initial consultation to assess your candidacy for liposuction. Honest, attentive, and devoted, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Levi Young will listen to your concerns during this first meeting, evaluate your problem areas, and provide the information you will need to make the right choice for your body.

Where Can Liposuction be Performed?

Dr. Young can perform liposuction on practically any area of the body. Popular treatment areas include:

  • Calves, knees, and thighs
  • Buttocks and hips
  • Abdomen and waist
  • Low and mid-back
  • Upper arms and chest
  • Neck and chin

Depending on your specific concerns, multiple treatment areas may be addressed during a single procedure.

It is important to remember that liposuction is not a weight-loss treatment. While it can be used to safely remove small amounts of fat from the body, it cannot be relied upon to eliminate larger deposits. Dr. Young can discuss your weight loss goals along with various body contouring options to help you choose which methods will best meet your needs.

How Long Will I Need to Recover?

Recovery from liposuction may take several weeks, but most people can return to work within seven days. If your job is physically demanding you may need to wait a bit longer. It is typically safe to resume all normal activities within six to eight weeks.

During your follow-up visits, Dr. Young will evaluate your progress and answer all of your questions to help you determine when it is advisable to resume specific tasks.
